Senior Fincrime Compliance Manager - Wise

New York | Please note that this is a not a remote position and will need to be based in our NYC or Austin offices 2-3 days per week.


At Wise we believe that people who are closest to risks are the best placed to identify and address these. We’re looking for a FinCrime Product Compliance Lead to work alongside our NorthAm Product team as they compliantly launch and scale Wise products globally.  You will also support our FinCrime Product Compliance team focused on Latam to drive growth and take the best decisions for our customers while balancing risk and compliance needs. These are key markets for Wise. You will be able to see your impact globally given the nature of Wise products. 

Your primary focus will be to help the NorthAm Product Team identify and effectively manage financial crime and compliance risks across a range of existing and new product types, markets and integration. You will also have exposure to business development and bank partner conversations- ensuring we remain compliant, while unlocking growth.  Separately, you will support our Latam FinCrime Product Compliance team develop and deliver effective results. 

Your mission: 

  • Develop a relationship with NorthAm product teams to cultivate a culture of compliance so that they are able to proactively think about compliance risks and opportunities.

  • Use data to articulate emerging trends across our products and proactively work to mitigate this with product teams in the region.

  • Deep understanding of the regulatory environment in NorthAm. Be able to take and defend decisions on our approach. For markets where you may be less familiar you should feel comfortable challenging members of the team on their interpretation to get the right balance of compliance and customer experience.

  • Build a solid foundation for teams to develop sustainable and compliant products across the Americas with particular focus on NorthAm

    • Assess new and existing products, features and controls against the product risk framework, and coach others to do the same

    • Implement control enhancements to launch and maintain compliant products and features with support from our dedicated Controls Team

    • Identify opportunities to unlock growth by working with members of product compliance in other regions and sharing these with product teams across the Americas

  • Ability to defend our compliance program to bank partners and interpret their concerns to enhance controls with priority as needed.

  • Contribute to improving compliance processes, evolving both our financial crime and our due diligence practices with support form our 2LOD compliance team.

  • Experience as a lead and mentor for more junior members of product, compliance, or operational compliance teams.

A bit about you:

We are looking for someone passionate about payments, fintech and compliance risk management and with an eye on the future. You should have: 

  • Minimum 5 years in financial crime compliance

  • CAMS, ICA or equivalent certification desirable

  • Experience working in the US for a regulated financial institution

  • Clear communication, project coordination, and management skills.

  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills a plus

  • A sense of camaraderie and good humour while under pressure or tight deadlines.

  • Wisdom, a world view and talent for thinking outside the box.

  • Professionalism and high integrity.

  • Willingness to challenge teams and themselves on how to best serve our customers, while keeping processes robust and compliant!

  • 25% international travel required when we can
